“For I Know the Plans I Have for You …” – A. Williams

I cannot forget the day that I was taken from my birth mother’s arms along with my two sisters. I remember the tears, screams and anguish of that fateful day. One of my older sisters and I were placed together while the other was placed in a home for children. I did not know it then, but God had a plan.

The day we were received into our “New” home, is another day that I will never forget. As our social worker brought us into the driveway, I remember seeing two women with open arms and sitting on the front steps was the largest brown bear I had ever seen. I remember using my 3-year-old legs and walking as fast as I could to grasp the bear and gave it an immense hug.

During the next couple of years, life had its challenges, and I had a lot to overcome. The previous home we were placed in left its scars. The couple that took us in were involved in drugs and alcohol which resulted in caretakers that were neglectful and abusive. As the baby out of three sisters, I bore the most noticeable effects of the abuse. I suffered from starvation, rickets, and ill health that compromised my immune system. Therefore, I spent a lot of time in the hospital.

At the age of 6, my foster mother became my adopted mother, and my sister and I were happy to say that we had a permanent family. I remember going through days, weeks, and eventually years without seeing my birth mother. We were told that she did not want to see us by our social worker.

In addition to not being able to see our mom, they had very low academic expectations of us. Although, it was predicted that we would not go any further than 9th grade, I determined that this was not going to happen to me. I worked hard to make made sure that I was at the top of my class. Throughout high school, I made the honor roll and received highest honors. I was able to attended college with many academic scholarships, and awards that aided me in completing my Bachelor’s degree.

Now several years later, I have a Master’s degree and a family of my own. God cared enough about me, to place me with a loving and caring family. My family brought me up to know the Lord. I serve the Lord and worship Him in every aspect of my life. There are so many different pathways that I could’ve taken, but I now know the plan God had for me was to live according to His will. I continue to seek Him to fulfill every purpose He has for my life.

Sometimes life has its challenges, and many of us have to go through difficult circumstances. Please be encouraged to keep on serving the Lord and know that God has a master plan for your life. When others tell you what you cannot do, know that with the Lord on your side, “YOU CAN”. Don’t try to understand it all, just place it in God’s capable hands and know that the result will bring you to victory.

I am constantly reminded of the Scripture: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Be Blessed,

Your Sister in Christ A. Williams
